Please follow the following steps to use theodolite in surveying:

      1. Mark a reference point with the help of the surveyor’s nail or stake at which the theodolite will be set up for measuring the angles and distance of the object.
      2. Set up the tripod. Make the height of the tripod should be at the eye-level so we can sight the object while taking readings. The centered hole on the mounting plate must be over the nail or stake.
      3. We can drive the leg of the tripod into the ground with the help of the brackets on each leg of the tripod.
      4. Measure the height between the instrument and the ground that will be used as a reference.
      5. Clamp the theodolite on the tripod and place it properly by the means of mounting knob.
      6. The tripod is leveled with the help of the leg of the tripod or by using bubble eye-level.
      7. You need to ensure that the tripod should be directly over the nail or stake and adjust the plummet with the help of knobs on the bottom.
      8. Then sight the object or at the point which must coincide with the crosshairs of the theodolite.
      9. Record the reading by sighting them.

The surveyor then uses the instrument to measure angles to points on the ground. The surveyor then records the data and uses it to create a map or plan of the area.
